Goehring Group – Autonomous Cars

Prof. Dr. Daniel Goehring – Professor for Mobile Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles

Prof. Goehring is on the faculty of the Computer Science Department at Freie Universität Berlin. His research focuses on robotic perception, object tracking, self-localization and planning. Besides behavioral planning for single robots, he is also interested in cooperative behavioral planning methods. He likes to solve real world problems with limited sensor data and calculational resources. Starting as an undergrad in the field of RoboCup in 2002 and later as a PhD student at Humboldt-Universtität Berlin, he focused on Bayesian world modeling and cooperative perception.

During his two year research as a PostDoc at the International Computer Science Institute at Berkeley, California, USA, he applied vision based machine learning approaches for perceptual tasks on a PR2 household robot platform.

Since 2010 – being part of one of the first self-driving car projects in Germany – and still today he is enthusiasticly working in the field of autonomous driving at the Freie Universität Berlin, where he is applying highly efficient world modeling, planning, and control approaches in order to generate accurate drive trajectories which finally are able to deal with a highly dynamic traffic environment.
